Thank you to Liz Stratton, PLCGS, for stepping in as our speaker for the July 12th program. She will be presenting:

Your Ancestor in the Civil War: Building a Profile Using Online Sources

Whether your ancestor was a soldier or sailor, fought on the side of the Union or the Confederacy, each veteran’s experience was different. Find the path your ancestor followed and weave in social and military history to recreate your ancestor’s experience. Learn to determine which of your ancestors served in the war. Explore online sources that provide the starting point of your Civil War research. Discover strategies for locating additional historical, photographic and military information online.

Liz does research throughout southwest Ohio. She has researched many Civil War soldiers, sailors and even musicians! Each had unique experiences that required different research strategies and sources. Liz has attended numerous genealogy institutes including the “Advanced Military Research” track at the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research. She particularly enjoys recreating ancestors’ Civil War experiences using histories, maps, illustrations and photographs.
